    Box oil pan removal

Is it possible to remove the oil pan off a 302, without removing the engine? Engine would need to be lifted, but is it doable? Has anyone here done it?
I don't want to pull the engine nor am I equipped to do so.

Haven't done it but have seen videos of guys doing it just as you say. Being the pan goes over a crossmember (if memory serves) makes it more "interesting" but I believe it can be done your way.

I have done that job on the early 80s 302/351 motors. Just needed to raise the motor quite a bit with a engine hoist. It helps to have plenty of room to work underneath.

I would think if you can get the engine high enough like Tom described it would be possible to do and not fully remove the engine from the car. Undoing motor mounts might be necessary but not all the other steps of engine removal. I have replaced the oil pan gasket with the engine in the car but didn't lift the engine enough (or maybe at all?) to get the pan out. I don't recommend doing oil pan gasket replacement this way unless you have a near unlimited supply of time/patience (apparently I did that day). On another occasion I dropped the oil pan with the engine in the car in search of a dizzy keeper... I had enough room to see in the pan and see that the coat hanger through the drain hole wasn't lieing, there was no keeper in that pan. (Turned out the keeper somehow bounced on the way down and was sitting on my timing chain. Good thing I didn't assume it dropped to the oil pan like it should have and I didn't dare start that engine.)

Yeah, I've been thinking: motor mounts, clutch fan / upper shroud and possibly wiring harness and fuel lines. Will have to check how much slack those have.
The wiper cowl is a big question mark.

I would remove the fan blade to prevent damage. The cowl area is tight. Motor mounts you will have to unbolt. Trans mount too. Radiator hoses undo. I don't think radiator needs removing unless you worry about damaging it. Just move the motor forward a little to clear the cowl. I did remove the hood. Last time I did those jobs was in the 90s. Wiring harness disconnect at connectors if needed. Not a hard job, just time consuming. Start to finish one day taking your time. Single sump oil pans are so much easier.
