Your cars curb weight is a little under 3700lbs, maybe even below 3600 just barely since you are carbed. In 86 they added SEFI and that brought all the cars to above 3700, mine being that absolute minimum was 3708 lbs.

Empty weight is 3475 for your car ('81 LTD Sedan).

I think gas weighs about 6 pounds per gallon, so add about 110lbs for a full tank.

With the sound equipment and sound deadner you have, you can prolly add another 150lbs.

It prolly actualy weighs 3700-3800lbs + your weight.

Y'all are wimps - 4500lbs last winter, with sand ballast, tools, and full tank, no driver tho. Lose the ballast, add the driver and 5 big ass tires and we're back to 4400-4500 lbs - yeehaw, me drives a tank!

For comparison, I have some published curb weights for newer panthers here:

Tiggie, is that Ford's specified curb weight for 1981 LTD Sedan?
Mind if I add it to my site?

                    Dry Curb weight?
Curb (kerb) weight is the total weight of a vehicle with standard equipment, all necessary operating consumables (such as motor oil and coolant), a full tank of fuel and not loaded with either passengers or cargo.

my car is 3832 curb weight. 4000+ with me in it.

Let me re-phrase: It's over 4,000lbs without me in it.

                            Thanks Tiggie

Did boxes have all steel body panels, or were some (ie hood/trunk) alumium?

The weights seem very low - considering the chassis remained so similar, and body components were (or at least I think were) heavier, it seems odd that they could weigh in less than 92-97s (which had aluminum bumpers, composite bumper covers and header panel, aluminum decklid (95-97) and hood, aluminum and composite upper engine components, etc.)

The header panels were fiberglass. Wagons got Aluminum bumpers, and I think the '88-'91 cars did too? You have to remember that the early cars didn't have much safety equipment; no air bags, abs, etc. My '82 is top of the line and it doesn't have any sound deadner or undercoating on the underside. Compare the weight of a 1st Gen Box to an Aero and I think the aero would be heavier. Also consider that you could get the early cars really really plain - no radio, no A/C, roll up windows, no clock, less dash trim, etc. The weights listed will be the car in base form with no additional options.
