Mustang H-Pipe to Impy Tails Questions

I really need to put my headers and Mustang H-Pipe on. My stock H is leaking fairly bad. I was gonna wait until I put the new motor in, but that is looking like it is gonna get pushed back a while. Paint and the slicktop conversion are #1 on the to-do list right now.

I need to know what kind of mufflers and intermediate pipes to run with the setup when I use Impy tails. I've heard S-10 midpipes work. How are the mufflers as far as inlet/outlet offset?

I'm not that concerned with the mid pipes, I think an exhaust shop should be able to fab me up some for a decent price.

u need 2.5" ofset ofset mufflers, a pr of mustang midpipes....cheapest is flowtech.....50 pr shipped from summit, and a pr of 2.5" 18" long extension pipes...about 5 bucks ea....line it all up, cut the extension pipes to fit......need some extensions in the back too if your doing it yourself

if youre going to an exhaust shop, i would just get the tails and the mufflers, drive there with an open mustang h pipe on the car lol

Yeah, most exhaust shops should be able to fab up a custom mid pipe for you in place of the extended Mustang setup. Its pretty much just a straight piece of pipe with a flange on one end. There is a slight little bend in the Mustang part, but its not anything that a decent shop can't duplicate easily enough.

Mufflers can be any length, you just adjust the midpipe/flowtube length.

              Thanks for the replys!

Hehe I am looking forward to the open H-Pipe trip to the muffler shop . So offset inlet and outlet is what I need and the muffler shop can handle the rest between the muffs, H, and tails. I haven't decided on muffler type yet... something chambered probably.

Summit Turbos are the cheapest muffler you can buy, and they're quiet. If you want loud, I suggest Dynomax Bullets.

I'm going for fairly loud. It's not a daily driver and the sound is what makes people look at the car .

Then the Bullets are what you want. The Dynomax website claims they're 2-4 db's quieter than straight pipes.

Ouch. I've got 19" Walker SoundFX mufflers (budget OE replacement type) with a Mustang H pipe and 2" tailpipes on the Squire and it's still a little loud to suit me. The X pipe on the Colony Park with 2.5" tailpipes and very similar mufflers is fairly quiet, though.

                      Blown-out eardrums, anyone?

I am doing duals for my ma's CV. Perhaps I will have that installed before you do yours. I have BBK Mustang shorties, BBK H-pipe w/cats, two 2.5" flanges w/ 2.5" collectors, two 2.5" cut outs, 8' of piping, Summit Turbo muffs, custom bent tails, and 4" resonated exhaust tips. I am also going to play with the 94-96 Impy 2.5" cat back to see if it fits as good as what I got. So you want a loud chambered muff eh? 88Vic had a good suggestion, but you could also try Thrush 2.5" welded chambers out of Jegs (part# 289-17659), they are relatively cheap ($29.99 each), and they look like they're loud. I got a Thrush glasspack for my Chevelle and that's plenty loud (though I did install a cutout for a little more hehehe). I was also told that the Flowtech Warlock muffs (part# 387-50552) are loud too; and that's when the caps are closed, but they are twice the price of the Thrush muffs. Hope this helps and get some sound clips when you're done!!!!!

Walker does offer offset-offset glasspacks. Only trouble is, I'm not seeing 2.5" in/out in my catalog right now.
