    B&M shift improver kit?

so yeah, is there anybody that has one of these in their tranny right now? can u notice a pretty nice shift difference? if so, what? i want to get a simple kit to improve my shifts u know just to make them a little harder thats all. there is an option between towing or street, which one should i put in?

Well, what's the difference between the two settings? I'd imagine the one for towing applies more pressure to the clutches so they don't try to slip under the heavy load, so that will be beneficial for your tranny. Street, well is it street driving, or street racing? My guess would be regular street driving, so probably towing is the better option... dunno tho, you decide

I've got one I still need to put in... I was just gonna use the street/strip setup, but either way you'll need a tranny cooler for it.

I believe the street/strip gives you the snappiest shifts, and the towing one is just quicker than stock...

Never put a B&M kit in. personally I Like the TransGo kit you can get for $30. makes the shifts nice and snappy, but nothing harsh. it also fixes common pressure problems within the valve body and keeps essential parts from slipping. Instructions are simple and straight forward.

X2...I'm with eric on this one...B&M is not a good shift kit(from what I hear).
I posted a poll on CVN about the shift kits and everyone said the same thing:
Either go with Transgo or Baumann
a lot of people were favorable toward the Baumann.

Transgo HP, for a REAL performance shift.

Before he parked it, Justin (phayzer's) trans shifted AWESOME!

Lincolnmania runs a B&M, and while everyone knocks them, his shifts actually pretty good...

I have a B&M in mine, and the thing acts goofy. I went with the "street/strip" option on it. When I first test drove it, it chirped the tires into 2nd gear, but after that it softened out again on the 1-2 shift. 2-3 and 3-4 are still fine, but the 1-2 is soft. When it warms up, I'm planning on pulling the valve body back out and changing to the heavy duty/towing 1-2 accumulator spring to see if that makes a difference.

Everyone recommends the Baumann kit, though, and when I put a shift kit in the Lincoln that's what I'm planning to get. So if you want a shift kit, that's the brand I'd recommend.

I hear that with the Baumann kit, you can adjust it more than others.

i had brian install the b&m shift kit that i had laying around that i was gonna install in my 88 cougar.........well after the ho transformation, the trans was slipping in first gear at wot...........well i figured i was gonna be buying a trans soon anyway, so i had brian install the shift kit and bump up the tv pressure.........that was over 20,000 miles ago, shifts are still super, and no slippage......btw my aod in the towny has 197,000 miles on it
i prefer my b&m kit over the hp kit or the transgo kit......i'll prob keep the same valve body for the wide ratio.......my shifts are decent

Watch those HP kits. They play poorly with heater cores, even new ones. If you do use one, install a restrictor in the heater hose to keep the core from popping. I wouldn't reccomend one for a stock engine though, a lopo won't make power at a high enough rpm to make the HP kit worth the trouble.

I have a regular TransGo kit (not the HP), it's set up to the fastest and hardest shifting, it used to shift pretty nice... then I went to near max TV pressure.. and now I just love it - no chirping tires, but upshifts are crisp and right where you need them, and downshifts are just a tap on the pedal away.
