the Deuce is about to blow!!

    AAAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My lord, I think the Deuce is about to blow up.

She WILL NOT start. I had her running earlier, but she choked and gagged her way to a start. If you tried to rev, she would cut out and die. So I had her idling for a while... and she started pouring out coolant because MY ELECTRIC FAN DOESN'T WORK.

So I had the timing almost all set right, she was almost starting somewhat decent... when something went wrong. Now she doesn't do anything except backfire. Sounds like the motor is trying to blow out the back of the car.

I've been trying to get her running for over a week now... needed a new ignition module, battery, battery cables, distributor cap, and now the timing is horribly off to the point that I don't know what direction to turn it anymore.

...and I'm not about to get rid of my electric fan, starting to wonder if it's even wired right.

This is one of those times I simply wish I owned a new car. I mean, damn.

Sounds like an easy fix. Set the 1 piston to TDC and check out the cap/rotor orientation. If it doesn't start at that point it's probably 180 off. The motors are pretty tough. I overheated my 87 numerous times with no ill effects.

The first day i drove the 85 once i got it going i over heated it after it threw the belt. After i did the head swap two days later pulling the car on the trailer at the track i forgot to turn on the fan and pegged the gauge at 250deg

Well I was able to get her started, just gonna take her to the shop down the street and have them take a look at it.

And for the fan... I need a relay. I thought you could just wire it to the thermostat... since the wires match up and everything... but I guess not.

Those fan controllers only handle a small amount of current. Most E-fans will surge near 30 amps to start and pull a steady 10 amps or more when running.

What fan and what controller? I had a buddy run a Taurus fan through the Flexalite controller......... He's killed two of them. When they die they stick ON though, not off...........

I run mine through a relay and its like 3 years old now..........

It's a Z28 dual fan... anyone know of any relays that have fuses over 30 amps?

Just run a big unfused relay and fuse the power feed separately between the battery and the relay.
