But why such a severe discrepancy in price? If they're of comparable quality, what's the difference?

SCAT products are forged in China and then Machined in the US, Not sure where Callais is made, and i cant find any info on them right now, im probably spelling it wrong. As for the price, Speed cost money, how fast do you want to go.

Possible he meant Callies? Their website isn't clear just where the manufacturing processes take place, but they bill themselves as "America's #1 Crankshaft", boast superior design and super-tight quality control, and some of their stuff sells for two grand or more. I also hadn't been thinking of the billet cranks offered by some makers (including Scat), which can handle truly sick power levels if you're really willing to spend megabucks on your motor.

If there is one thing Chinese guys know how to do it is casting and forging, if there is some quality control present during the process the results are usually pretty darn good. The issue with the Eagle cranks IIRC was just a short-period thing, supposedly it's been take care of for a while now. Callies as far as I know are actually made here in the US, hence why the price.

As far as the compression ratio change, I wonder what the combustion chamber size on the E5AE heads you probably have now are? I think you have a 8.3:1 ratio stock on the 351W. If the E5AE's have a 64cc combustion chamber, I think that is the same as the E7TE's. Now if the E5AE's have a 69cc combusion chamber, swapping to E7TE's will give you about a .4 raise in compression according to some online calculator I really don't trust.

Yeah.... that's why it's best to set everything up and cc everything or have a machinist cc it ... that's the only way to know these things for absolutely certain. I think Summit and similar have basic cc'ing kits that aren't all that expensive.
