    Idle Help

Well I had this problem before. But now I want to figure it out and be done with it. [quote]i dont know if anybody has seen this in there owners manual. The Check engine light come on? My idle is all messed up. I don't know what is to blame. The computer says that the TPS is out of range. How do you put it back into range? What do you change?!!!!!!!!!!!!!! People were messing with that damn idle screw. Does that screw have to be in a certain place? Will the position of that screw determine if that code comes on or not? If so where should it be how much?!!! I am in desperate need of help! Please someone give me some input!

If the TPS is out of range, most likely its bad. Meter from ground to the green wire on the TPS with the key on and see if youj have .9-1.0 volts. If its way out of that range, remove the TPS and check to see if the little tabs have broken. More than likely you're going to have to replace the sensor. Thats what happened to mine, it read 0.45 volts.

Dont fool with the throttle stop screw. Its intended to keep the throttle plate from shutting so far that it jams. Its not to adjust the idle or TPS.

Oh Okay, so then the idle isn't necisarily wrong? It's just that the TPS is bad? Okay, but what about the idle air bypass motor? Would that make the out of range code come up? Or it's just a bad TPS? If so, I'll just get a new TPS.
Also, the screw was at a certain place, how much tension should be on it? Could you give me like a measurement. I want to kinda have it at the place it was. Thanks.

Its not set by torque, basicly its turned out till it contacts the throtle lever, and turned just enough to open the plate slightly, maybe 1/2 - 3/4 turn. Just enough to keep the plate from sticking.

IAC is unrelated to the TPS.

A new TPS is like $25 or something from Napa.

Everything is working like it should now. Idles high till it warms up, then lowers and stays running. It was the TPS. Where is the Thermactor? That's another code. Does it have anything to do with the EGR?

Why? What was so hard to do that? Is it that hard to reach for that?
