i was thinking about this. since the oil pump went out in my tudor, should i try to replace the oil pump? i am guessing i am gonna have to get a new crank and rod bearings too. i wanted to redo the lower end of the engine anyways. the engine will still fire up and run, but it sounds like nails on a chalkboard. should i also replace the pistons and rings? the heads are loud from no oil to them but they were recently rebuilt. any suggestions? if i pull the engine, can i get the pistons and such out from the bottom? thought i would ask since i want to get this tudor running.

ok...i did some pricing on a motor. i called oreilly auto parts, advanced, and autozone
O'Reilly's:
LOPO for $1199
i would need
intake and accessories(can be used from this engine)
all front components from water pump forward
HO for $1729
i would need
same as above, but would need HO intake
i prced the rebuild kits and pistons, but for a couple hundred more, i could have an engine with a warrantee. comes w/ valve covers, timing chain and gears, oil pan, and such.
Advance Auto
$1382 for a lopo engine
they THINK it comes w/ intake but will need water pump forward.

Those prices are for longblocks, correct?
You could most likely do a full rebuild on what you have for less money, but it just depends on your time/funds/skills.
You can get a rebuild kit from www.northernautoparts.com for ~$300.

From my experieces, the late model EFI motors are very tough. Honing the cylinders, re-ringing the stock pistons and throwing in some new bearings and oil pump should be sufficient for a rebuild. toss on some E7 heads and HO cam for more VVrrrroommm2003 Town Car Signature - 3.27 RAR, Dual exhaust and J-mod - SOLD 9/2011

the rebuilt long blocks come w/ roller rocker heads. the guy at the place i called about engines, said from his experience, lower end usually goes and the heads are fine. the heads were redone not long ago as i said. so they should have been able to take what happened. i know that the lower end was making some noise before the pump went. so having the new pistons, crank and bearings are gonna be a good thing. pistons are gonna cost like $22 or more, the rebuild kits cost between $500 and $800 depending what comes in the kits. i wanna play it safe and replace than rip it down and have a headache and wish i did just get the motor.
