Did you try running it with the radiator cap open and with the heat on the highest settings for about 20 minutes?

way i bleed cooling systems when their being an absolute bitch is fill up the cooling system as much as you can, then put the rad cap on its first position (not sealed, but not able to take it off) then take the car out for a 5-10 minute drive, just nice and easy. then bring it back and top it up. I've found it gets alot of stubborn air pockets out, never done it on a box before though. Almost forgot, gotta have the heater on full blast. And i've heard that the temp gauges in these cars are not very accurate from the get-go, so maybe you just have a malfunctioning gauge.

Fordd fills most if not all of there engines using vacuum from the factory. Once you change out the fluid or it gets low enough for some reason you can t get all the air pockes out no mater what. Bleeders can be installed in certian positions to get some of the bigger air pockets out. With out bleeders its not going to happen. Proved it time and time again. filled the engine drove it for hours, days, weeks, hp and down hills. jacked up one side of the car then the other. Opened bleeders and air came out not just a little either.

I did not turn the heater on when I first filled I did take the cap off I guess I'll try to bleed it with the car parked on our driveway slightly uphill then try to bleed it

The heater core gets coolant flow whether or not you turn the heat on, so that wont really matter. I usually do what 91ltdproject does with the rad cap. Just make sure the overflow bottle is filled up fairly high otherwise it wont do you any good since it will just suck air when the coolant in the bottle runs dry. If you have access to a vacuum coolant fill system, thats really some neat stuff, and its amazingly effective at not leaving air pockets behind.
