    Carburetor Neck Adapter

    When I do the 4 bbl swaps on my cars, I want to use a couple of old Carter AFBs that I have lying around. The problem is that the neck on them is smaller (4 3/4" IIRC) than most of the newer stuff. So any air cleaner (including the stock air cleaner) that's designed for a 5 1/8" neck won't work. Does anyone know where I can get an adapter, or better yet, an air cleaner with the smaller neck opening?

    And if your solution is to just buy an Edelbrock Performer carb, don't bother. I'm trying to save a little money here. :p

    just buy an edelbrock prformence carb.... mabie just look on ebay for older air cleaner with that size neck mabie

      A Carter AFB is an Edelbrock carb. 99% identical. Carter's design was eventually made by Webber, and if you look on the body of an Edelbrock, you'll find that big W stamped in the housing. The Edelbrock is just a chrome plated AFB for all intents and purposes.

        I'm well aware of that. But that doesn't change the fact that the AFB's neck is too small for most air cleaners.

                Nate, go to the nearest Advance Auto and look for an air filter adapter ring kit, it's made by Mr. Gasket, has several rings, and costs about $9 IIRC. I bought one of those for my Chevy, but only for the 1" spacer ring, the reducer one is still in its packaging somewhere in my closet.
