I would imagine the GT40 intake is better than an HO intake, even after being ported...

depends on the rest of the setup and what you want.... You need to set some goals and research what is required to get there.

I think thats what he's doing here.

First off. GT40 and Cobra intakes both use the same lower intake manifold, just like the LOPO and HO use the same lower intake manifold.

        Onward.

GT40 is the best of them all. An HO can be ported to match GT40 flow rates, but will be more expensive than just getting an GT40 Explorer intake. The tubular intake will save you some weight but are hard to find as well as being expensive.

There are also aftermarket options that are surprisingly competitive in pricing to the correct Explorer intakes. Those things have gotten expensive on ePay. The goal is mostly to match things up. A super flow intake with stock heads is not going to do anything useful, and on the same token having heads that flow huge amounts of air will not really perform unless the intake can provide them with sufficient flow figures.

so basicly what is best depends on what other parts and plans you have.

GT40 heads go with GT40 intakes. Ported GT40 heads with a gasket matched GT40 intake, an E303 cam, 1-5/8" primary headers, 2-1/2" dual exhaust without cats will definitely do well.

Bang for the buck..... Explorer intake with modified Explorer throttle body and modified or Lightning EGR spacer.....
What does "best" matter if you do not have the money to build your car from front to rear? My point is to save money where you can yet still get excellent performance. That is why a complete Explorer motor usually makes the most sense. With a cam change it is good enough to push a Vic into the low 14's. at a minimum.
