    Spark Plug Poll

I was curious what kind of spark plugs I should get for my car...
I don't know a whole lot about them, but I hear that copper tips are good and platinum is not necessary.
what brands do you guys prefer?
    Copper, Platinum, etc...

    thanks for any info

      I was leaning towards Autolites...
is there any benefit to platinum in 5.0s?
is there anything wrong with Champion? they're the cheapest I've come accross so far...

I've used each one of those brands of spark plugs in my Fords, and they all worked fine.
Couldn't tell a difference from one to the other.
All were coppers, except when I tried the platinums. They pinged.
              Don't waste money on platinums.

I'm running Champions in my car right now and they seem to work just fine. IMHO, Champion is a good plug...after all, they ONLY make spark plugs, so they can devote all their resources to making the best product possible. Just my 2 cents.

I heard from a Ford Engineer that they build an engine around a chosen spark plug. I always stick with what came stock branded in my cars (motorcraft or Autolite in my CV, AC Delco or GM in my Impala) Never had any problem with stock plugs per manufacturer. I had the same ping issue with Platinum plugs in my old 88 CV years ago, then had the platinum fall out of a Bosch plug and melt down a piston in my 73 Torino. I'll never touch those again.

I always hear champions are junk. They're good for Mopars tho.

I've always had good luck with the Autolites, and the AC's. I would NEVER use Champions, even if I got them for free. I used them in one of the most bulletproof engines ever made, the Chevy 250 straight 6, and it ran like shit!!! At the time , I was running it in a '67 Impala. The car would idle like shit, and my gas mileage went from 22, down to 9 M.P.G.!!!! And yes, Mopar uses them as OEM, but when it was time to tune-up the wife's '02 Durango, they went bye-bye, and in went a set of Bosch Platinums. So far 20,000 miles later, not a single problem. We took the truck to Disney World last year, and at 70 M.P.H., with the A/C runnung full blast, I pulled 20-22 M.P.G. I went with the Platinums, because the 4.7 motor has the plugs set in about 7 inches into the top of the engine (about the same location as the Ford 4.6), and I wasn't about to replace the plugs every year in it.

                          That's impressive...very cool.

so, from what I see so far, spark plugs are pretty much all the same(as far as performance), they all do the same thing, make sparks
but it's the rest of the ignition components(disty, cap, rotor, coil, etc) that make the difference.
but Champion is the one plug to stay away from. ok.

hmm...aren't Autolites made by Motorcraft? is there any difference between them?

Autolites and Motorcrafts are made on the same assembly line, different paint and part #'s

                              ah, I see...Motorcraft/Autolite, tomato/tomAto....same thing.
so, I guess these motorcrafts would good right?
