When I get my next Vic, I plan on runnin BBK equal length headers to catless 2.25" downpipes and turndown tips for a little bit. Ever since the first time I heard a Mustang runnin no cats or mufflers, i've always wanted to do that. I've never heard of anyone gettin busted for a loud exhaust around here before, so i'll be okay for a week or two. And with a 4bbl carb and hotter cam, it ought to sound very baddass.
Damn this is a long post, but i'm in seminar and i'm really f'ing bored.

      You're talking about shorties, right?

I wouldn't claim to be an expert on exhaust science, but I'm not sure how much benefit there is with equal length shorties over regular shorties. With long tubes, yes, they can be tuned to come alive at a certain RPM, but I'm not sure that the extra expense of equal length shorties is going to be worth it.

I like the way my Thrush Turbo glasspacks sound, but my exhaust system is pretty weird in having the glasspacks very forward and before the H-pipe. I do have 2" pipes though, dumping about a foot or two before the rear axle.

I worked on a '68 F100 (360 FE) one time with side exit exhaust. A glasspack on one side, a tubo muffler on the other. It sounded pretty unique driving down the road.

The Ranger with a 2.3L I4 OHC w/cat sounds different, unlike any other 4-Banger I've ever heard. Deep, not ricey, but not throughty. It sounds badass without a muffler, but runs like crap due to OBD-II Electronics and no backpressure. Hence the cheap glasspack, and it did help with performance.
Ever hear a 2.0 with an open header? it sounds SOOO badass:megadeth:

I read somewhere that equal length headers(not shorties or longtubes, I think somewhere in-between, not sure though) will give extra torque throughout the power band. I'm sure I could find a pair on ebay or a slighty used pair for as much or cheaper than new shorty headers.

There are equal length shorties, and there are mid length. Mids aren't gonna fit without work.

Well screw that. So which would be better bang for the buck, Mustang shorties or equal length shorties?

40 series 2.5 inch inlet and outlet. I gotta get my 2.5 pipes first so I can bend em to fit.
