    83 Grand Marquis

Hello all Im new here and have a question. I already tried the search and could not come up with anything. I have a 83 Grand Marquis 5 liter EFI the car will stall everytime I take my foot off the gas but will run fine when I give it gas. I think the IAC valve is the problem but I cant find it. Can anyone tell me where it is or what else the problem might be. Thanks for the help.

If it is an 83 than it is a CFI car not EFI. I dont think the CFIs use a IAC valve. 85cvhpp* is the resident CFI guy.

If the car hasnt been serviced for a while Id check the EGR valve first, its probably clogged holding it open. Its supposed to be open while you drive, but you cant idle too well with it open.

I had a link to an excellent writeup on how to clean CFI EGR but it was on OldSchool's page and its down now...

Hey its nice to see a fellow Hoosier. Im only familiar with EFI 5.0s(and not an expert by no means) but thats what my 89 & 91 both did the same thing and I was EGR issues. You get good at left foot braking though.

Where in Indiana are you? Im in Crown Point.

So there is no IAC valve on a 83? That would explain why I cound not find it.

There should be a dashpot that sits against the throttle lever to push it open for high idle, but no IAC like on a newer car.
