Most likely they do have a resistor wire, even the EEC-IV coils have the resistor wire running from the ignition, I know mine did anyway.

I never ran any sort of ballast resistor with my duraspark carb'd motor and it ran fine. Tom and the GMGT is another story

I know the EEC IV has a resistor in-line on the coil, don't have much experience with D-spark so wasn't sure. I think it might also depend on the coil, some have internal resistors, some are designed to run higher voltage, etc. I know my old VW motor did not use a resistor wire for example.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
