    CFI high idle on startup

does anyone know how to fix this? my dads 84 grand marquis idles really high when you start it up and doesn't drop for like 3 mins, that can't be good for the car my guess would be that its ideling around 3-3500 rpm! does anyone know how to fix this problem, also it does idle higher and longer on colder days then after a few minutes the idle drops to normal, help!

Howdy Nick - there are two adjustments on the choke - one looks like a normal idle screw and it works pretty much the same except its just for the choked idle.
Also I have heard you can loosen the three screws holding the choke thermo-coil in place (the thing that physicly sets the choke catch - looks like a hockey puck) and "dial" it back and forth. Im not sure which way does what but some patience and fiddling will go a long way

PS this thread will be migrating to the CFI forum in due time

I don't know about the CFI, but on the VV the choke cap (looks identical to the one in the picture on the CFI, probably is the same) is riveted in place. You'll need to drill the two top rivets out and replace them with screws. You can ususally get by without removing the bottom rivet. On my VV, turning it back from a twelve o'clock position, towards the firewall will make the choke come off faster.

Those aren't rivets. They're a special screw where the head breaks off when you get 'em tight. At least that's the way they are on my VV. I just took a dremel and ground slots in 'em.

Mine were rivets for sure. But yours probably is different considering the 7 year difference between our cars. Be glad you didn't have the rivets, they were incredibly hard. I broke a drill bit off drilling one... it's a mess.

Huh. Okay. I had just assumed they wouldn't have changed that. Never mind, then.
