    Bad news, good news...

Well, the car runs pretty decent with speed density, 19lb'ers and the XE264 cam. Only problem is that the missing/bucking is still there with the 19's and SD. No change in symptoms from the 24lbers and MAF ECU.

So, what that means is that the motor is hurt. Bent pushrod, bent valve, collapsed/broken lifter, broken/bent rocker, loose rocker...Could be any one of those..

If it's not raining too bad the upper intake and VC's are coming off. Hopefully it'll be obvious. Might also pick up a compression tester to narrow it down before I pull it apart.

Hope you get this figured out soon, man... it's been WAY too long. I (obviously) wouldn't have the patience.

Lets hope it aint a bent valve, all the rest can be fixed easily. Good luck Mang!

Bent valve is easy enough...I could pull the heads and have 'em sent out. I also have a set of ported heads I could toss on there in the meantime. I'm getting pretty damn frustrated with it. I want to take some vacation time, and I refuse to take the protege or accent on another trip. I have to get the wagon running first.

Throw the ported heads on for sure, swap all your valve train componets and make sure they are all ok before putting them on.

Remember to check for a bent valve, loosen the rockers and use a rubber tipped blow gun in each spark plug hole, listen for the escaping air. Lots easier than pulling heads to look at them.

If I swap the heads, I will need to do a bunch more work. The other heads are a different deck hieght, so the pushrods will need to be swapped. I have no idea what the springs are good for either. Those ported heads aren't anything special either. 79 castings with some mild portwork off my dads Versailles (and then my 87 vic sedan)

At the minimum, if I have to pull the heads, I will port match the lower intake to the heads.

Does it just miss at idle or all the time?

All the time. Shakes like crazy under any load Runs best wide open, but still a dog. I'm thinking it's a F'd lifter. Even does a bad stutter decelerating. Valvetrain always has been a bit loud.

Where'd you get the engine from? IE, did you convert your SO motor to HO or did you drop in a full HO engine?

So, you think its a lifter?

Hoping it's a lifter. Motor was sitting for 9 years. Was always noisy.

Guess it's also possible I overrevved it and damaged something, but I doubt it.

Guess I should think positive. If it's a bent valve, heads get ported. Worse, I get a 331 or 347.... Or a stock rebuild on my old 5.0...

How many miles are on your stock engine? The irony is of course that if you had just done a swap onto your old shortblock, you'd probably be fine

My Mustang engine has 330,000Km on it, sees regular track time, has its 3rd cam in it now, hold 40PSI of oil pressure hot at idle and will hit the pump blow-off when you get on it.

The engine in my TC is about to roll 300,000 right now........... Stock lifters in there still

Its strange eh, that, the high mileage ones just seem to keep going and going, yet a fresh engine can last such a short duration or just never be right............

I'm assuming your old engine was healthy?

My stock motor is in another vic running around PA. It got an HO conversion..

I have the HO converted LOPO out of my 87 sedan...It has no oil pressure but runs like a raped ape...250K+ miles on it.
