hey guys, the gas tank on my 81 merc is leaking, so i have to replace it quick time, now i have a new one out of a 90 merc and was wonderin if it would work, and if no, what would i have to do tomake it work? thnx!

Should be the same tank if they are both sedans. I think wagon tanks are different. You will need to swap out the pickups because the one from the 91 will have an electric fuel pump for EFI. You have a carb on the 81 I assume, which should have no pump. The fuel level sending unit should be the same.

The gauge sending unit on the front of the tank or the pickup on the rear of the tank where the lines plumb in?

All the tanks I've seen have a seperate float and pickup plate. The fuel lines connect to the plate on the side of the tank you can't see with it in place and the float is on the front side where you can see it looking up under the car.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

if i get all the fuel lines modded on the EFI tank, what do i have to do to make the gauge sending unit work, jus get the 4pin harness of a car at the wreckers and jus use the 2 wires for the gauge? fuck if i had a second car to drive, id try my self, but this is the only car i have in the winter.
