Ho's can do alot in a big car. If you match everything well. Even a lopo can, if you use the power it has well. 16.03 in the 1/4 for my lopo.

you could have your upper/lower intakes ported for better airflow and improved high end performance.
but 3.55 will make a HUGE difference.

3.55's or 3.73's and a high-rev governer would be your best bet for a little extra snap. After that, maybe add some 1.7 RR's

tuning is easy with an Apexi S-AFC air/fuel ratio controller. for about 299 you can adjust your fuel pressure/air ratio to whatever it needs to be, provided you have big enough injectors and a powerful enough fuel pump. [It has its limits though] I still don't get how they got 400hp out of a stock 5.0 HO with only AFR heads and 1.7 RR....was that motor carbed?

And the fact it required that BS in the first place is the problem. Dissimilar metals are a pain in the ass to deal with in an area that experiences heat. Different expansion ratios stress the gaskets, and the galvanic corrosion causes one material to sacrifice to the other. Not sure what materials are in the head gasket, but it could be thats the least noble metal, and thats why it goes away. Actually, I'd bet thats what it is. The old coolant accelerates the process because it becomes acidic or loaded with iron, and becomes more conductive. It literally makes a battery from the different materials interacting.
