Must not have been secured properly, or the ground wasn't flat or something. That, or some asshole wandered by and leaned on it.

Being pinned by a car that falls off stands is fun. I've also had motors break and fall on me when hoisting too. Got a nice scar on my one arm from a 2.3 that fell.

I think I'd be selling that BII... sounds like it's got a bone to pick.

You might be driving along one night and the steering wheel suddenly lock up... and you know the rest. My box did it to me once in a parking lot... I would have probably been dead had I been going down the highway into a curve.

You see that little pin that the arrow is pointing to? That little pin is part of a larger assembly that is controlled by the ignition switch. The assembly controls the locking of the steering wheel as well as the actual on/off/acc positions. Mine broke and proceeded to lock up the steering wheel and prevent me from turning the car off.

Even if the pump fails the wheel won't lock up. It just becomes very difficult to turn. I did have the steering wheel lock bugger up in my 68 Beetle once, and that caused the steering wheel to lock on me. Not fun at all.

anything and everything. Impossible to say what should be replaced without inspecting it.

vacuum hoses and the radiator cap always a safe bet. Nobody changes those. If you're looking to replace things no questions asked, replace it all, if you want to replace stuff thats bad, inspect it and figure out if its bad, then replace it.
