    trans prob?

is there anything in a trans that could fail resulting in the engine to be locked up?

Lots, all nasty. But there is an easy way to check weather it is the engine of the tranny. Jack one rear tire off the ground. Put it in neutral, and see if you can turn that one wheel off the ground. If you can then 90% chance its not the tranny. If you can't...well, you are going to have to get a new one as yours will be un-salvageable.

ok ill try that, but can happen at the very front of the trans like in the torque converter area and the input shafts?

Yeah. I had a trans do that. When I put it in park, it made a horrible grinding noise and the engine locked up. Not sure what it was, but I had caught the car on fire and baked the transmission to a nice well done level.

does it matter if the vehicle still rolls when pushing it blaze?

If you have it in neutral, then it's turning the drive shaft and the tranny.

If it is not making any obvious grinding noises when you push it in neutral, then I'd almost lay money it's the engine.

What are the symptons anyways? Does it not crank? If so, does it try and fail to turn over, or does it not try at all?

to tell you the truth, this has to do with a 3L V6 with an A4LD trans, and i was told that the trans blew up locking up the engine, and hes sure the engine aint seized since it made a squeeling sound and died

Mine still rolled without noise. It had locked itself into overdrive, or the direct clutch in the converter locked. Not sure which exactly but it was like a manual transmission car that was started in third gear or something.

Well, it's still in the air but the squealing noise does not point directly to the tranny either. That squealing noise could have been the bearings seizing up. It could be either way really.

Not being an AOD though, I'm not exactly sure how that tranny is setup.
