No Wonder I Had No Heat

My thermostat was broken in two! I think it was the original, it had a Ford Part #. It was a 197 degree. I put a 180 in back in there. My Summit Temperature Gauge sucks. Its about 40 degrees off.

See the attached picture I took with my new digital camera. Dial-up sucks so I had to shrink it. 8MP is freakin' huge!

Wonder how much sludge is inside that motor from running cold like that. Ford smallblocks get real nasty if they aren't allowed to get good and hot to cook off the garbage.

It's got about 100 lbs of sludge inside. It's the nastiest motor I've ever seen inside. But it runs quiet (probably due to the sludge insulation!) and doesn't really smoke.

Just changed the oil with 10W-40 and now I have 15psi of oil pressure (better than the 8psi with 10W-30)!

15 psi at hot idle is plenty. Never run synthetic oil or use anything to try and break the sludge loose or you will destroy that motor in short order. All that crap will end up in the oil pickup and it'll die from oil starvation.

If you clean it out with seafoam it wont. Ange's brother has a 95 grand prix that blew the head gaskets. The oil/water was a thick ass sludge. After I replaced the head gaskets I poured sea foam in the engine with cheap ass oil and let it run and get good and hot. It broke up that shit real well. Then I put fresh oil in it afterwards to continue the flushing process.
