Gadget73, the part number and price I received from Advance was for the HO motor. It comes with E6SE heads, but they're junk. First thing I would do is pull the cam and heads. I'm probably going to go this route. I want to buy a motorcycle during the winter.

Why buy a longblock if you are gonna toss the heads? You can get a new FORD 5.0L shortblock for about 1200 bucks.

Hell, I bought my complete new motor for 1750 shipped to my door....and shipping was 500 bucks

The firing order of the 289/302 tends to load up the #3 main bearing a bit more than the 5.0HO/351w firing order. Something to do with the fact that on a 289/302, #7 fires just before #8. (1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8) and it doesn't happen on a 351 (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8). I'm not an engineer, so I don't know exactly why this is the case, but there are lots of 302s with knocks at lower mileage than HO engines so there must be something to it.

NA: I'm with Mike, no point buying a complete engine to toss out the heads and cam. Might as well get one that already has at least the good heads.

It's because the lopo fires on the same main cap at the same time, therefore putting more stress on the bearing. My lopo knock went away with a HO conversion.

I really want a shortblock because I can't decide what heads I want to use on it. What's the part number for your longblock? Did you order it at the Ford parts counter?

I bought mine from dahmer powertrain, not ford. It's a Ford Assembly line motor-Scott got the motor for the superlinc from there too.
