Dangnabit I just bought one of those. I'll toss it.

The common sense on this board is astounding (don't know what that says about my question in the first place...)!

I was just thinking about that TBL...replacing it with a flush-T for a coolant flush (like Prestone's flush and fill kit) might make sense. No hose cutting required. I wonder if the space is too big though...

I replaced my TBL with a plastic hose connector, which is pretty much the same dimensions as one of those flush tees. I see no reason why one of those wouldn't work in that spot.

Small ball bearings work as a neat way to seal off those vacuum lines. Put a dab of RTV in the end of the line, stuff the ball bearing in there, and leave it be. Most good hardware stores will sell the balls for like a quarter each. Not sure what size you'd need though, maybre 3/16" or 7/32".

And the TBL is on the intake line for the heater right? I guess I could walk my lazy ass outside and look, but I believe it's the one coming from on top of the intake near the thermostat.

Great idea about the bearings for plugging those vacuum lines.

yeah, probably hanging roughly middle of the passenger side valve cover. I can't take credit for the bearing idea. I saw it somewhere else and filed it away for later usage.

So yesterday I ripped out the TBL and replaced it with a coolant flush tee. Fit perfectly! I didn't have any ball bearings, so I actually stuffed ear plugs in the vacuum holes, then wrapped the whole thing up in tape. Seems pretty air tight now...don't know abou the longevity of ear plugs though, haha. Works well, no leaks, and I have floor heat!

large machine screws dipped in RTV are also pretty effective. I think a #12 or maybe a 1/4" ought to do the job.

is it really needed to slide the dash forward or is it possible to get the box apart and the cor in and out without moving the dash

You will want to loosen up the dash as you need just that extra bit of space to get the plenum out. I didn't disonnect it entirely, I loosened the drivers side, removed the bolts on the passenger side and wedged a 2x4 between the door frame and dash to hold it back.

so really youre saying that if you dont slide the dash back yu wont have enough room to get the heater core out

1987LTDmasta claims he did his heater core by shoving the entire dash slightly up. I have yet to figure out how he did that. I always pull the entire dash out, and yes, dropping the business end of the steering column makes that lots easier. Lots of room that way. I've got pics around here somewhere .....
