    starting question

I noticed like the last 2 morings after I start the car before I put in gear. the car is idleing its acting like it wants to stall. I have to have me foot on the pedal a tinny bit so it does not stall do you think it's from the cold it was 38 this moring.
the engine has 155,400 it just started a rod knock the knock is not too bad just on start up. do you think because of the knock it would want to stall after start up? I take care of the engine or is it iginition parts? any info would be great.

    thanks mangs
ps this problem only happens on startup it does not do it when I drive it

The IAC is the thing bolted to the back of the throttle body with the electrical plug coming out of the bottom of it.Mine was original and did the same thing when I would shift,it would act like it was going to stall when being put into gear, and sometimes when coming to a stop, but usally would'nt.

I ended up replacing mine too late,as it deceided to finally die on me one day when I stopped to make a turn off the highway, stranding me in the middle of the highway, Yea bad situation.Engine would'nt even start back up with the Throttle held open,I had to get out and remove the IAC to get it to start up again, just so I could get out of the middle of the highway.

When they start acting screwy and messing with the idle,it's best to replace them before they die completly and end up putting you in a bad situation.

IAC, is a possibility. But I'd consider the air temp sensor first. The IAC can be cleaned too, before replacing it.

air temp sensor would give u a loping idle?

Yeah, among other things. It messed up the A/F ratio. Make the MPG bad and the car not like temp changes.

Please don't adjust the "idle screw" on a SEFI car. Its not intended to adjust idle speed, nor is it really supposed to be adjusted at all. Its a throttle stop screw to keep the plate from jamming. Idle control is done via the IAC.

Cleaning my original IAC did nothing to help it,still had the loping idle, and would try and stall when shifting gears.Sometimes they just go bad I guess, and yes the idle screw is not supposed to be adjusted on a EFI car.
