The original "true CAI" I fab'ed out of 3in mandrel bent exhaust pipe ran behind the bumper, and wasn't cutting it for daily driving.Filter got dirty wayyyy to fast and sucked up water when it was raining hard.

The true CAI I have is made for daily driving, keeps water out,and keeps the filter relatively clean inside the engine bay.It sucks air being rammed in through a hole in the inner fenderwell, were the washer/coolant overflow tank use to be.After installing it I immediately felt a increase in mid rpm power and throttle response at cruising speed.

I'll get a pic of mine up on here pretty soon.

I am just going to run a scoop under the bumper up to a filter box and then into the intake.

Scroll up, it's the same one 91Project used. And too long is never a problem.

Even so,There's no point in installing it unless your gonna box it in.Especially with that tube being curved so that the filter is right beside the radiator.Cutting a hole in the inner fenderwell were the washer tank was will help some, but unless it's boxed in it's still sucking in hot engine bay air, making it a WAI.

I actually have mine curved in toward the fender,so that the filter sits right behind the low beam headlight, boxed in,and forced to suck cold air through the hole in the inner fenderwell, works quite well.

It's a true CAI that anyone can build themselves, and consists of all steel/aluminium pipe.

I should have a pic within the next week.

Same one I used. I cut some pipe off just after that metal tab at the top of the tube, the opposite end from where the filter goes. I never boxed the one in when I put it on the 91, something I have to do on the 88. How did any of you build a box for the filter, i allready have gotten rid of the washer/coolant bottle and have it converted, so I got lotsa room.
Edit -you actually put the filter on the opposite end of where it shows in the picture of the black intake. oops

I used a kit that came off my buddy's wife's Sebring. Works well, though I had to cut it in half for the MAF meter:

I'm trying to figure out a way to (cleanly) shroud it from the heat from the fan/engine......

but haven't really come up with anything yet.

Got my pipe and filter today.

91LTDProject, what did you use to attach the pipe to the throttle body? Plumbing reducer? Is that the rubber part or is there something I'm not seeing? Rubber attachment piece that came with the pipe doesn't fit the TB at all.

oops, sorry. ya i used a 3" plumbing reducer. looks horrid, but gets the job done. For the 88 i'm gonna use proper silicone couplings to actually make it look half decent. But I had to tighten up the plumbing reducer so much that it bubled out in the middle. That and it took all the paint off my t.b. Also a bitch to get off after a long time cause I dont imagine they are built to withstand much heat. you get your pipe yet monterey?

Yeah, got the pipe. Black and shiny. Gonna run all over town tomorrow to find parts to build a box for the filter. Wonder if I could stretch the rubber connector out enough to fit over the TB. It's pretty small, though. Will let you know what I come up with.

I just switched back from a CAI where the filter was right behind the drivers' side headlight, back to a short intake, and I picked up a ton of power it seems. Don't know why.
