If the TPS isn't working, that could be related. Timing excessively retarded can make it run hot and do similar things. Apparently the timing is slightly adjustable, but I don't quite know how. Something with modification to the distributor hold-down. Basicly, try to loosen it and spin the distributor around to see what happens. Its also entire possible that someone pulled the distributor at some point in it's life and re-dropped it a tooth or so off to compensate for the timing chain having jumped, or maybe the plug wires are shuffled around. I'd check to make sure when the engine is at TDC on #1, the rotor is pointing to the cap tower for #1, and that the plug wire on that tower actually goes to #1 cylinder.

EEC III distributors have no advance, no pickup, no nothing. Its run off a crank position sensor through the ECM to a duraspark box.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

Welcome to your old car. Your driving experience will be loaded with thrills and chills as parts old enough to have children fail in a seemingly random fashion and timed in such a way as to keep at least one system partially or fully non-functional at any given time. Should you at any point get the vehicle working totally correctly and say as much to someone, it will promply break down out of spite. This has been a public service announcement from your technical support team here at GMN. Thanks for listening, and happy motoring.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).

oops I forgot about the alternator 3 years ago...
In the 1st year I had it I put in a radiator and new shocks, one injector took a poop so I had them both replaced.
All the rest has been for funPete ::::>>> resident LED addict and CFI defector LED bulb replacements
