    It's that time.

Hey mang's it's that time agine for me to change my oil and get a new air filter.

Which sholdent be a problem. However, My drain plug leaks. And i was woundering what all i can do to prevent this. Last time I used high temp Gasket Maker. Which worked rather well. But it still leaked

Im thinking about this time getting a rubber washer, and some Tefflon tape, and along with the Gasket maker. Now the plug that i bought last time as well has another plug inside of it. So if i can just get it to umm stop leaking i can just undo the secound plug from there on out.

Any more thought's on this? Ive also herd of a repair kit for this. but it was in a magizen from the 60's

    Thanks Mang's.

I did :-D, What it's doing is when it gets just snug it will then turn and go back to being loose. Thus why im going to do all of this ;-P Guess that tread in the pan is striped.

Dark, do you have a buddy who's heandy with a MIG (or even better a TIG) welder? They can just weld nicely some nut on the outside of the oil pa, then you won't have to worry about overtightening and stripping threads.

How about just using a one size over plug. The really correct way to fix this is to replace the oil pan, but an oversize plug should take care of it.

I tried a umm. Self Taping one.. which suposedley is supposed to do the same thing... It didnt work so good, still had the same leak )

Will a Over sized one work better?

Right now it's not that bad. Im just prepairng so it can be Alot better :-D

If the self tapping job didnt fix it, maybe an oversize one will but there is a fair chance the threads are just trashed. The proper way to fix this is to replace the oil pan.

True, and neither does any other thin sheetmetal, it's real easy to burn through them if you're not careful. At the correct settings of the welding machine however very nice seams can be made, heck I'm no master-welder and I've done some pretty darn good sheetmetal welding jobs. That's why I said to take the car to someone who's experienced in welding, and not to someone who hwck-welds something once a month just so he doesn't forget how to use the machine.

Oil pan replacement is the best way to fix the problem, yes, however it involves lifting the engine, which is another major PITA on its own.

Yea, im not plainging on taking the engine out... if i do that id look for another ( Bigger one ) to put in it ) Ima just going to try that umm tefflon tape and umm
gasket maker, ( This time ima let it sit for 24 hours till i put the oil in, ) And hopefully that will do the trick, if it does like i said i wont have to take that plug back off becase it has another plug inside of it :-D

Engine doesn't need to come out to do the pan. It only has to be unbolted from the motor mounts and jacked up. Possibly also the fuel lines have to be unhooked but it should lift high enough to just barely sneak the pan out once the pump pickup is removed. Its a pain in the ass for sure though.
