Top end is well over 100, Im leaning towards replacing the cats, having the King of Carbs tune the Holley, checking the timing, she gets new plugs tomorrow. Thanks for all the info!

With the gearing in these cars factory, most of us can theoretically top out at over 180mph, not taking in aerodynamics.

Heh... for those of you with 2.73's, you can get to 223mph @ 5000rpm. 3.08 guys get to 198mph @ 5K, 3.27 = 186mph @ 5K. That is assuming a tire size of P225/70-R15. Not that it matters because they would shred at those speeds, and no Box without some serious body and engine mods is going to top 130mph.

I'm with OneBadLSE, it takes forever to get to some serious speeds in a mostly stock Panther.

Stock mufflers, stock exhaust, all that fun stuff will make 'em slower than a slug...None of my cars have ever had any issues. Even the bone stock 2.73 geared car did fine. A good tuneup should help out greatly...

IMO, you want a car that really has no issues with doing 100+ in a matter of 13-15 seonds, get a panther Marq LSE That car will cruise less than 1/4 throttle at 105 mph all day long (ahem, no exaggerations there - Also considering it tops off at 109)

My stock 91 would cruise 100+.... A Kentucky Trooper can testify to that..

The 87 could do stand still to 100mph in 15 seconds. 200 Hp, 24mpg.

All he could prove was that I was going 92 at one point...We both new I was going triple digits. That's the one nice thing about 85mph speedos, When they ask , you can say "I have no idea how fast I was going"

ill agree, my car def likes 70+ as opposed to 55.... anything above 2,000rpm and shes right there with me up to 4,000rpm anything above that i start to lose power, think its partially due to 136K mile stock valve springs and lifters also stock fuel pump and regulator.... I'll have to plug in my a/f guages and see if she's leaning out @ 4,000rpm+.... better not be, never hear it ping EVER and damnit im running 10* base timing... I think after she becomes emission's exempt ill change out the headers with some 2.5" mustang shortys go with flowtech catless off road x pipe and keep my flow 40's....

The motor and accessories weren't really designed to go more than 4-4.5K...Lopo's are the suck.

come to think of it - my 91 Marq would like speeds over 80. It would actually accelerate better when i was gently pushing the throttle over punching it.

Thats the thing she USED to just come alive from 70-90mph, now not so. Been getting super crappy mpg lately too. 8 new motorcraft plugs tomorrow, and then a tank w/ a can of crc g2p and two cans octane boost to see if I cant clean the cats out. If that dont work then new cats (someday).
