    Major Noob Question...

Do all '85 CV's have EEC-IV? If not, how do I know if mine does? If it does, where would the computer be?

Thanks in advance, and I appreciate that you don't bash me for my stupid questions. *(shakes fist at CVN)*

I don't think 85's have eec4...They are CFI which I believe is eec-3. The ECM however I believe is in the same place. Next to the brake booster in the firewall.

I could be completely wrong though...

I think (correct me if I am wrong) most 1985's were EEC-IV, as were some '84's.

The 351W cars used a system called MCU for Microcomputer Control Unit. Similar to EEC-II.

        '83 and some '84's were EEC-III, '82 was EEC-II, and '79-'81 was EEC-I.

Easiest way to tell, look at the distributor. If it has a module sticking out of it like this:

its EEC IV. The EEC III did not have a module, and was only found on 1983 or older models. Non-EEC cars, which would be a 351 powered police package car, or possibly a canadian model, do not have that module. By the way, thats called the TFI, or thick film ignition module.

Ha. Yeah, I just picked up a replacement TFI. It kept taking a crap on hotter days, and I was advised to go ahead and replace it to see if it was my problem part. Do I need to take off my whole distributor to replace that bad boy? It seems impossible to get to the rear bolt on the module as the engine block is in the way. Also, I didn't know there was no module on the EEC-III cars.

yep, CFI had both. the older EEC-III demon used duraspark ignition, EEC-IV is TFI.

I read a mention of a "remote mount TFI" modifiction on a truck forum you can do that I like the sound of

I had to pull my distributor to get the tool in there to pull the TFI, but maybe depending on the tool you're using you might be able to just spin the thing around far enough to get it apart.
