I have pics somewhere, too lazy to get them now, but Ford did in fact make SOHC 289 and DOHC 260 in the 1960s.
The DOHC was a 260 c.i.d. with 4 gear-driven cams and was used in Indy cars I believe in 1964.
The SOHC 289 was one of Dan Gurney's ideas, which ended up eventually culminating in the Gurney/Weslake motor. I guess Ford wanted to see how much "Hi-po" the 289 Hi-po really had in it. The cams were actually located in the valve cover, not the head. It was a strange configuration and they only made a couple of them and none ever saw production, only testing. I forget what they ended up getting for HP but it was over 300, I know that.

Sorta like the sohc 2.0 and the 2.3 I4 hell yah. Wish we could put a super charged one of those in the cop car now that would give new meaning to intercepter.

I'm not sure a smaller displacement engine is what you're going to be wanting in our huge cars when torque is so important.
All Ford has to do is put the 3-valve in the Panthers...

I have some .030 over Boss 302 pistons and some 351C pop up pistons .030 over brings open chamber heads to 11.5 to 1. Also a 302 Boss factory intake. Some rockers heads block and stuff.

                    351 heads

I have DO 351W heads on my 302 in the bracket car. ARP makes some stepped head bolts just for this swap.

A CLEVOR was so-so popular a few yrs ago, but with R&D and all the choices of W style heads today, why bother?
Speed cost....how fast u wanna go??

It's not how much hp u have...
It's how much hp u can put to the track...

Let's seperate the men from the boys and put that power to the track using street tires and stock suspension components

'Tis infinately better to sit quietly and be thought a fool,
than to speak and remove all doubt.
