2.47s couple those with an AOD and and 31" tires, probalby get nearly 30 MPG on the highway.
2.47s? Is you car '83 or older? That sounds like a gear out of a C4 equipped car.http://secondhandracing.com/Home.aspx

Not on 1,000 years. You would be turning WAY too little RPM's for peak efficiency. If it was that easy, manufacturers would be doing it. They knew it didn't make sense when they gave up on it in the early 80's.

Heh... we got a '76 Cutlass Salon with a factory 5-Speed Manual. It's got something near to 2.56:1 and combined with the OD and 260 V8, it's a complete dog. 5th gear is unuseable unless you are going 70mph+.1990 Country Squire - under restoration

Here's another pic of the axle tag, should be on one of the bolts for the differential cover unless you lost it changing the seals. The sticker is not on the door itself but on the inside right below the door striker. It will say AX on it somewhere and have a letter referring to the axle code (example: Y for a 3:27 open).
You could jack the car up and count the number of times you have to turn the wheels to get one turn of the drive shaft. Also, you could probably call a local Ford dealer and ask them to run the vin for you. There's also a report you can get to see exactly what your car came with from the factory.
To narrow it down, chances are your car has either a 2:73 or a 3:08 rear. Most box panthers were sold with these types of rear-ends, alot were open rear differentials also. The 3:55 K-code rear was very rare to be found on a panther unless you requested the full-tow package, but is found more often with Lincoln's from what I've seen. 3:27's were an option also, which are the gears I have and can be found with alot of tow-packages. I like my 3:27's, only wish I had a track-lock rear though.
Also, you will know that you don't have a track-lock if you can spin the right rear tire only while attempting to powerbrake the car.Current rides - 1991 Ford Thunderbird 3.8 v6 (gas saver/DD) - New Heads/Headgaskets with ARP studs, Air Silencer Delete, 70mm MAF, Plasti-dipped Matte Black with a Silver Metalflake Overlay, Muffler Delete, some LED's, 30.233 MPG for high MPG average!

thx mefull your information was very usefull, I appreciate it. almost 99% of the time it burns both tires but i do know it does one more than the other because one tire has a bit less tread. could this be from wheel spin on launch? with tracloc does it always spin both tires under power brake or does it just depend on how good the power brake was lol?
maybe ill have to do some research.. i understand what limited slip is and all that but whats the tracloc. thx for your time.Give a man a fish and he will be fed for a day.
