'Ready' for echeck.

Got the new 02 sensors in my 03 and headed up to echeck completely forgetting about the 8!! modules in it that need to be 'ready' for echeck.

Usually I would just drive it a while and take it back but need it done by Saturday.

Took it illegally to the license bureau Sat (tags expired Friday), of course their computers were down statewide, and the last time I took an illegal car to echeck they about had a heart attack (though they did test it!), so got new temp tags today and if I can get there in time, 6, I'll have it tested.

Check engine light is back on but that's probably the stupid KAM again. It won't make it fail, they'll put it on the treadmill and sniff the exhaust.

Well it wasn't the stupid KAM. Still P0161 and P0141. Checked for power, there's key on/engine off power to both. Dangnab it. Even if it was both I could've ran a temp power line just to pass echeck (my final set of temp tags runs out 8-5).

So, wiring or PCM. I found this at TCCoA:

"...you should be measuring between pins 71 or 97 (the red power circuit) and pins 93 (#1 heater return) and 94 (#2 heater return. If you have continuity between 93/94 and 71/97 with the sensor unplugged, you most definitely have a short in the harness. If that's the case, disconnected the bulkhead connector for the engine bay harness and test again. If continuity remains, the short is in the computer harness (not fun!). "

I added the PCM pinout below for future reference. If there's no continuity it might be the PCM itself.

So my descent into unwanted electrical troubleshooting experience continues.

No kidding. Rather get greasy - I understand a stubborn bolt.

If it looks like a shorted wire heck on pulling the thousand wire harness apart, I'll splice new lines in and zip tie them to the harness.

Alright if someone who knows a faint glimmer of what they're doing (or anyone with an opinion ) can give me an eyeball for a moment and take a look at the pinout above on post 8:

I disconnected the lower 02 sensors and checked for continuity from pin 71 to pin 93 and then pin 71 to pin 94 - no continuity. When I plugged them back in they did have continuity. So the wires aren't shorted? And those are the correct pins? The 02 sensors have 4 wires.

And the big assumption - therefore the PCM is bad? I know it happens...

71 is power from the ECC relay. so you should read shorted from the heater lines with the O2s connected. 93-96 are the ground side control for turning the heaters on. They should be connected to the pin 71 wire and very low resistance (probably on the order of less than 100 ohm) and may "ring" with a continuity tester. Read it with the ohm setting and see if you're just reading the value of the heater element. If you get below 1 ohm with the o2s connected, then there's a short in the heater circuit of the o2 you're testing. I'm assuming you're testing this with the ECM disconnected. I'd test the new o2s and make sure they are actually good.

Yes I did check the wiring through the disconnected 'puter plug with a continuity tester (two cheap test lights and a lantern battery ). However when I tested the wires at the sensor plug for power KOEO with just a simple test light it was all connected, I've been told that's bad?

I really need an auto electrical course at the local community college, maybe some youtube vids! I'm not very familiar with using a multimeter.
