I'm up in Rochester. and four tires in 215/65 are $408 (358 after rebate), and 215/70 is $376 (326 after rebate), both on tire rack. Is it worth the savings?

215/70/16 is pretty damned tall. Probably pushing it.
85 4 door 351 Civi Crown Victoria - Summer daily driver, sleeper in the making, and wildly inappropriate autocross machine
160KMs 600cfm holley, shorty headers, 2.5" catted exhaust, 255/295 tires, cop shocks, cop swaybars, underdrive pulley, 2.73L gears.
waiting for install: 3.27's, Poly bushings, boxed rear arms, 2500 stall converter, ported e7's, etc
06 Mazda 3 hatch 2.3L 5AT (winter beater that cost more than my summer car)

I'd go with the 65s. 70 is quite tall. And because snow tires are softer, any rubbing you have will be exacerbated and cause faster, uneven wear where they are rubbing.
Phew.
Just having snow tires and a Trac-Loc make things much easier in the winter with these cars.
I'm right down the road in Buffalo, and I've driven through some henious shit with my snows and Trac-Loc.

Ok guys, I made my final decision, and went with 215/65s, for clearance insurance and better handling. Cost me $470 with shipping, although I will be receiving a $50 rebate, so that almost pays for the shipping. I also opted for the studding service. Here's what I bought: http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes
