So I went to put a factory CD player in my dad's 2002 vic - the one I got came out of a Windstar, but its the same shape and has the same connections on the back, so I figured I was good.
Turns out the one I put in was causing a pretty significant draw and killed his battery... it worked, but gave an audible 'pop' when you turned it on, like the sound you get from a lousy older after-market amp.
One thing I noticed was that in the windstar, both plugs on the back were used, but only the one on my dads.
If the one I pulled was meant for a CD changer or factory amp package, will it not work? The draw seems to come and go repeatedly about once a second, like it was 'looking' for something...
Also after I pulled the CD deck back out, I heard what sounded like a penny rattling around in there... who knows what that possibly could have been shorting out.
Are those head units not that interchangeable, or is it more likely the one I got was defective?
I also noticed that the whale panthers, trucks, minivans and a couple other FoMoCo's from that era all use that same head unit, but some have a backside that tapers down to DIN size, while others are full DIN size all the way back.
The first one I pulled was nicer, but full DIN in the back and didn't fit because the 2002 Vic one has the thinner backside.
