    Heater Blower

Hi friends. I hardly got a chance to thank you for helping me with the axles. Now I've got a number of other issues. The blender door stoped working last spring. Never bothered to fix it because as long as it has heat that's good enough for me. The control modual is spitting out 24 and 25 codes. Looks like it is the blower resistor A.K.A. Speed control modual under the heater core hoses. Thease are the same thing I assume? I'm a little worried something else could be the root of the problem. I smelt burning electronics a few days before it stooped working. I was setting the thermostat to 65 all year. Then I thought if the door was stuck directing hot air perhapse I should set the thermostat hotter. Problems ensued shortly after. Perhaps coincidence? Do you think I could get away with not draining the coolant? How much coolant might I spill out? Should I be good just doing the blower resistor?

Coincidentally the interior lights have been failing to turn off on cold nights. This started happening three days before the blower went. While the blower was working once the car warmed up the lights would go out. I think I have this one figured out though. The door hinges are shot. So there is a lot stress on the latch. There is a chip in the black plastic sleeve. I've fixed the plastic sleeve by applying a couple layers of heavy heat shrink.

yea, speed control module aka blower resistor. Its not a resistor anymore but often the failure is broken solder on the large power transistor in there that does the work. Pop it out and have a look, reasonable guess you can fix it since I know you've got experience with electronics.

I ended up swapping with a new unit. Fixed it for now. My baby daughter is in the hospital. No time for messing around. She is doing well. Her big sister must hsve csught RSV at school. Thanks! Also glad to learn there is no cabin air filter on the newer Mercury's. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
