Unable to pair new key fob on 03 Grand Marquis

    Afternoon,

I recently bought a used 2003 Grand Marquis GS. No key fob included. Went to Autobarn and bought a new FORD keyfob. Turned key on/off 4 times and locks unlocked and went into programming mode, however the new keyfob would not pair. Changed the battery on the fob, no luck. Tried to pair the new keyfob on my 03 Mustang and it worked. So I assumed the problem was the DDM. Keep in mind that the door locks and the keypad on the exterior driver door all work perfectly on the Grand Marquis. I bought used DDM off of eBay. Installed it, but still couldn't pair the keyfob to the Grand Marquis. Door locks and keypad still working fine. Went to a key fob specialist website and bought what they claimed was a Grand Marquis specific key fob ( in term of frequency ). Still no luck. They car will go into programming mode but I can't get any fob to pair with it. Is it possible that both DDM's that I have are defective? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Just to make sure you're using the complete procedure...

    Remote Transmitter Programming
NOTE: All remote transmitters are programmable and must be set at the same time.

Make sure that the anti-theft system is not armed or triggered.
Turn the key from OFF to RUN four times within three seconds, ending in RUN. The locks will then lock and unlock, confirming program mode has been entered.
Press any button on each remote transmitter to be programmed. The doors will lock and unlock to confirm that each remote transmitter has been programmed.
If additonal remote transmitters are to be programmed, repeat Step 3 within 7.5 seconds or steps 2 and 3 if more than 7.5 seconds have elapsed.
To exit program mode, wait 7.5 seconds.
NOTE: Failure to wait at least 20 seconds will cause programming failures.

Wait at least 20 seconds after turning the key to OFF or after the last remote transmitter has been programmed to activate a remote transmitter for testing and verification.

That last part about waiting 20 seconds (I usually wait at least 30 just to make sure) is very important.

If you are doing that step, I've got no real clue why it's not working. I would think that if the keypad works to unlock and lock the doors, then the proper remotes should work. Pretty much any remote that's a 4 button Ford type should work.

I’m using the proper procedure. I was able to pair the key fob with my 03 Mustang using the process you posted. The issue is with the Grand Marquis. I’m tempted to buy another driver door module off of eBay.

Was that a standard feature by '03? Perhaps your car wasn't equipped with that option? Is something unplugged? I wondered for months why my Town Car didn't lock the doors when I put it in gear. It has the keyless and illuminated entry option, but that feature never worked. Earlier this year and many years after I gave up on it, I discovered there's a weight sensor under the driver's seat which was unplugged. I plugged that back in and whaddya know? It now locks when it's put in gear.

What is the FCC ID on the back of the key fob (if there is one stamped)?
I have a DDM from a 2004 MGM in my 1998 MGM (since 1998 DDM was dealer only to program key fobs).
My original Key fob that came with the car is CWTWB1U313 and programmed to the 2004 DDM no problem. I grabbed a couple key fobs from a 2004 LTC in the junk yard a couple weeks ago which are CWTWB1U322 which I can NOT get to program to my 2004 MGM DDM.

          Part numbers on the keyfobs:
F8AB-15K601-AA (works in my case) CWTWB1U313
F8DB-15K601-BA (does NOT work in my case) CWTWB1U322

There is also a CAN number that may or may not be important
          1788 102 352 (works for me)
1788 102 354 (does not work for me)

I'm not sure if any of that information is useful, but it gives you something to possibly look into as far as those numbers go before spending more on another DDM.

Yeah, if you're waiting the required time after the procedure for the settings to save in the DDM, I've got no clue why it's not working. It may require the dealer computer to hook up to it and program it. Last time I checked with a dealer for what that would cost, it was about $140, but that was 7 years ago. Basically one hour shop time (minimum charge).

Connected the car to forscan. As Built for DDM A0-01 is C000 0000 FF60

Anyone know if this is correct for remote keyless entry?

i tried to program the fob through Forscan service procedure, but once again it did not see either of my fobs

I wonder if you have an antenna issue. Not sure what wire it uses for the antenna though. It's not specifically called out in the service manual.

I also could not get Forscan to program fobs, I think the procedure errored out before even trying to do anything but this was nearly 5 years ago. The manual procedure of key on/key off 4 (or 8) times was the only way I could learn my fob to the DDM. I don't know what C000 0000 FF60 is, is that something on the label of the module, read with Forscan from module memory or something else?
