96 CVPI Interior dome light stays on .

Today I changed the door striker bushing and adjusted the door to close correctly. That turned out good. Tonight I noticed that the dome light stays on. First suspect is the door ajar switch. From what I have read, the switch is combined with the door latch. The safety light turn off switch works which is good ( won't have a dead battery) Later tonight I tried to put the striker back in the old position. Light still won't go out. I will be working on this in the morning. Other than spraying WD 40 in the latch area and hoping the stuck switch will free itself, what can I do ?
Another possibility is changing the door latch assembly.
Anyone have a spare for the base model ?

Those pesky door latch dome light switches always stick. Soak with WD40 to free up; otherwise replace. I'm not familiar with the exact part on a 96, but my Ranger was a fairly easy swap.

+1 lube good and if it doesn't help, replace the switch. Had to do that on my Expedition once already. PITA getting the switch off the latch without taking it out of the door.

I'm not familiar with how the dome light switch is setup on '96.

On my '98 the dome light switch is somehow attached to the latch mechanism inside the door. Specifically, it's triggered by the upper latch finger, so when I was working on the driver side door yesterday, I closed the top part of the latch to get the dome light to go off.

In boxes there was a switch mounted in the doorjamb that the closed door would press to turn the light off.

If '96 uses a switch like what boxes have, adjusting the striker could have move the door in the closed position just enough to not fully press that switch. On boxes that switch is adjustable in and out to compensate for the door alignment.
If '96 is more like '98 then I have no idea (yet) if that is adjustable, but some WD40 as suggested seems like it may be what you need to get the switch to not stick in the light on position.

Pretty sure 94 was the last year of the door jamb button.

Update: I re adjusted the driver's door so the closing is much better. I could not get the light to go off. Too late now but I wonder if putting a new striker bushing on interfered with the light switch?
This afternoon I ordered a nos door switch from NOS FORD PARTS out of Kansas. Very pricey $150 but when that is the only nos door switch available nationwide, I will bite the bullet. I must say the person I spoke with responded quickly and it will be shipped out maybe tomorrow. I finally got the light to shut off by removing the bulb.
I found a nos passenger front door switch in my spare parts. Too bad

I hate how a few parts are getting to be unobtainable, yet much needed.
