I've seen tranny expert 88grandmarq recommend only Motorcraft since aftermarket ones are not as good. I would think the gasket is reusable if it's OEM.

Personally any time I have to replace one I prefer to use the neoprene blue ones,I believe they are a felpro(don't quote me) as they are reusable, and are way more durable,I use the oil pan, valve cover ones as well and haven't had a bit of trouble out of them,as for filters I have always preferred fram, just cause I like the suregrip feature, just a matter of opinion though.not real sure if they make the for (I'm assuming)470w trans

The "suregrip" thing on Frams is only for spin-on filters, this is no Allison transmission tho and so it's got internal flat filter and not external spin-on. Not sure if the '97 4R70W gasket is reusable, if it's not than either get a factory-style gasket or switch her to the later-model pan and a reusable gasket. Most cheaper aftermarket gaskets tend to be rubber these days whether the pan can run a reusable gasket or not, they work alright if you don't overtighten the pan bolts. The expensive stuff ought to be of the reusable variety, but it again goes back to whether the pan can use it or not.The ones who accomplish true greatness, are the foolish who keep pressing onward.

Yes I am very well aware that transmissions do not use spin on filters,I figured that went without saying,if u don't know that u probably shouldn't even be working on a vehicle, the fact that u thought u needed to chime in on a technicality and treat someone like they are stupid say's alot about your morals,I kinda thought we all shared the same passion and helped each other that doesn't mean point out everytime a guy leaves out every little detail. There's a word for that its called being a dick, pardon my French.

Hi,
I think you may be reading too much into what HRG said. He responds to many threads with just the idea of helping people solve their problem. There are members here who are experts, novices and everything in between. There are some like me, an expert on some things and completely ignorant on others.
HRG just tries to clarify issues and solve problems. Some folks may have no idea these filters don't just screw on and they could have been confused.
I am sorry you were offended. I can tell you it wasn't meant as an attack, like on many other sites. Almost everybody here is really just trying to be helpful.
If you ever see me post something that could even possibly need tech correction please jump in. That is how its done.

There was no malice directed towards you whatsoever by HRG. No quote was used to directly point fingers or anything like that at all towards you. Here, like in MANY MANY other threads, HRG was providing information about the topic. Nothing more and nothing less. I hope you can see that.

I do apologize for that I have just seen people on other sites who prefer to talk down to people,I am not saying that was your intention hrg,I am no expert by far as u all no I have consulted u all on several matters.I just recently have been trying to be more involved on this site and share any info/past experiences to help in any way I can, show the same kindness so to speak,as I have said I sorta felt like I was treated like family on here, andam proud to be a member.sorry for getting off topic, again I apologize to HRG and anyone else I may have offended, just don't want to see anyone talked down to if they are trying to learn is all.CHEERS!!!

Nah brother, you worry too much - no offense taken here, all is well. And for the record I do know full well the type of behavior you're referring to, some sites do indeed have a lot of that assholiness going on, we tend to not be like those people (or at the very least try to behave in a more civilized manner) - most of the time it works out, sometimes it does not, lolThe ones who accomplish true greatness, are the foolish who keep pressing onward.

Oh goodie, if that's the rubberized steel-core style those are pretty awesome, virtually impossible to overtighten the bolts with them and they don't try to squeeze out or even move around as you install them. Much better than any cheap aftermarket stuff you'll find at a parts store, so yeah go for that for sure. The ones who accomplish true greatness, are the foolish who keep pressing onward.
