    Currently prepping for my first J-MOD (on a 2000 MGM) and have a gasket query. The gasket that you see when you take off the valve body is called a "separator plate gasket", p/n 7C155 (on the fordparts.com site). This one is apparently the same for all whales. The gasket between the valve body and the separator plate is called the "valve body gasket", p/n 7D100. This one is obsolete. The fordparts.com site only shows the 7D100 up to 2000. Starting in 2001, they use p/n 7C155B for the "valve body gasket". Curiously, the obsolete and current ones both show as being for AOD-E/4R70W/4R75W. Is the 7C155B backward compatible? Or should I stock up on the few 7D100's that I've been able to find?

        I just paid less than $10 for the two gaskets, though probably about $7 for gas. My big concern is compatibility. The 7C155 has apparently not changed over the years, though I'm no expert. The place I got the 7D100 from had a different version of a 7D100 for 2001, with a few different holes. Does anyone know if year-to-year variations are common?, or whether 2001+ are the same? (If/when I get another whale or two, I'd prefer 2002, 2004, or 2006+, unless I get a really good deal.)

            Yes, the gasket between the valve body and the separator plate are different for 2001 and up. the gasket between the case and the valve body is the same 1996 and newer 4R70/4R75.

            DO NOT use a separator plate gasket for a 2001 up in your 2000 valve body !!! it will damage the transmission

              Thanks. It was nice to hear from a tranny expert. The full OEM part # for the one I got for between the separator plate and valve body is XW7P-7D100-AA. I think the 2001 one that I saw was an AB, and it was clearly different. I picked up a spare AA one today so I won't have to hunt around if/when there's a next time. I would've taken their last one too, but it had a crease on the outside of one of the corner holes. It's probably not a critical location, but ... .

              FWIW, it looks like the full OEM part # for the one between the separator plate and tranny case is 1L3P-7C155-AB.

              With any luck, I'll finally get around to doing my J-mod and various other things in August. When I do, I'll make a point of measuring all the holes noted in the original J-mod specs and seeing where everything's at. At this point, I'm figuring on leaving the springs in based on various comments I've read. I'm figuring it'd be easier to live with not enough than too much.
