Aftermarket Wheels

I am giving some thought to getting some wheels next year for my '05 MGM. I imagine these cars have the wheel sensors mounted inside like the '07 PI wheels I got for the '86. When buying aftermarket wheels, would I have to get new sensors and have them calibrated or whatnot?

That's good news. Do you have your mind on a specific set you want to get, or just beginning the search? If you don't have something specific in mind, check out discounttiredirect.com. They usually have a nice selection. As a 2005, I'd imagine that you have the high positive offset, so your wheels are gonna be set up more like a traditional FWD car than the older Panthers, which actually probably opens up even more possibilities for you. Sometimes tirerack.com has some good deals too. Just a couple ideas for ya. But if you do have something in mind already, I'd love to see some pics!

I have a couple ideas, but not set on them yet. Figure I would give myself a year to figure it out. I was considering 18" Saleen wheels; but I saw a Crown Vic at the mechanic shop shortly after with those wheels. Kinda killed that idea. I'll figure it out.

This summer I may attempt headers and full exhaust. I mostly do highway driving, so I would like to make the car breathe easier; and also install cutouts when I am driving home at night after a few consecutive 14 hour shifts. I heard that I would have to tune the car after installing headers because it relocates the O2 sensors. That prospect is killing my desire to do that. Too bad it isn't simple like on the '86 CV where I just install and fire up the car. :-/

Careful Chuck! I did that a while back and I woke up to a pile of rocks waiting for me in the backyard. They're still there to this day.

Seriously though packman, what color is your car and what kind of wheel color are you considering? I always liked the idea of the '03-'04 cobra wheels on a whale. Didn't do it because I had a '98 and didn't want to run spacers, but you have it easy when it comes to whacking on some mustang wheels. The saleens look pretty good but I'd stick with 17" any which way you go. 18's will ride like shit, unless that's how you like it.

I wanted to do the '03-'04 Cobra wheels, but they only offer them in 17". If I had an '05 Crown Vic, it would be a no brainer though. My car is burgundy, so it would be silver or chrome wheels for whatever style/brand I choose. I'll take a crappier ride if the 18" wheels handle better than the 16" wheels and whatever tire size I got now.

That's an aftermarket 17" by 10.5". There was no way this thread was going one more comment without a wheel pic. I was jonesin' man. Skins crawling, seeing bugs, the whole deal.

Incidentally, these look really great on a whale. But most of the Stang wheels do, and for the more common varieties, you can get a set for cheap on the old Craigslist. Some great examples for sale around here of the non-Cobra mustang feets.

This isn't my car. I wish it was! This is just a pic I found for illustrative purposes of a Whale steppin out on them Cobra feet. Looks good to me. Of course, taste is subjective. I like the 17" with more tire, versus the 18" with less tire. Looks wise, not a big difference to me, but having a little more tire seems like it would be a better idea for roads with a lot of potholes, and in most cases, riding comfort. But like dad used to say, opinions are like buttholes. Everyone has one, and they usually stink.

the LX-Sport wheels are 17 inch IIRC and 5-spoke... but wider spoke. I like those too.
