If you dont have load leveling air bags, I would say new springs. Unless you haul lots of weight all the time, air shocks are not nesassary.

So, maybe some heavy duty cargo coils are what you want, since the weight is part of the car.

I've put a few pairs of cargo coils in the rear of panthers over the years and my experience was, didn't effect the ride much, but did flatten out the car a bit on highway onramps etc.

Ah sorry. Old vernacular. 'Variable rate coil springs' is the correct term if'n I remembers correctly.

I think the rear springs from 1979 to 2012 work IIRC... so you could use wagon springs (your basic cargo coils) or order up some stronger springs to fit your car. To swap them out, you just need to unbolt the shocks and lift the rear of the car until the springs pop free... then just pull to get them out if they don't just fall out. Replace with the new springs and re-attach the shocks.
the interchange may stop at 2002 though. I'm not real sure on that one. police spec springs are stiffer as well. you can always spec out even stiffer springs. Though, to figure out how stiff a spring you need... about how much weight are you keeping in the trunk?

If you want to haul a lot of weight, order springs for a natural gas vehicle. They are heavier to deal with the added weight of the CNG tank in the rear of the car. I believe those are the stiffest springs from the factory for these cars.86 Lincoln Town Car (Galactica).
