When I am in my '01 GM sitting still with the engine running....

and I turn the steering wheel in either direction I hear loud squeaking. What is it? Cuz damn it's annoying so I wanna fix the problem.

Backstory: this is probably related to my wife getting ran off the road and running up on to a curb which sliced the front tire sidewall and completely blew out the rear. Car is def pulling hard right. AGAIN. /facepalm

I think in this case you are going to have to look underneath and have someone turn the wheel. It may or not be visable with the car sitting on the ground. Just do not put your head in the wheel well with someone inside a running car.

could be belt slipping (this could be a tensioner pulley that's getting weak as well)... power steering fluid low (pump squealing)... or possibly a hard part (tie rod end, ball joint, etc) being unhappy (lack of grease). I'd check the fluid level first and then belt tension (shouldn't be slack to the touch - engine off - and the tensioner should NOT be able to be moved by hand unless you're He-Man.)

Sorry guys, yeah I def feel like it is suspension related (TRE-BJ). Not any type of pump or belt. It's more like a squeaking sound rather than a squeal, if that make sense.

dry / damaged lower ball joint maybe. If its pulling, something got bent. Put it up in the air and have a look. Hopefully whatever it is just got a minor tweak and not any real amount of damage.

i second the ball joint. sounds like it has gone dry and is on its way out. non greasable front end parts FTL.

Yeah the last time I got an alignment, which was just about 4 months ago, said I needed new LBJ's. I assume these are pressed in? Any workaround for doing this myself with limited tools?

you rent the ball joint press from the auto parts store. It helps to have an impact gun, but you can get by with a good 1/2" ratchet to crank it in.

The other way to do it is you block the lower control arm up on something, use a hammer to try and drive the ball joint out. Then you have the car towed to a mechanic to replace the lower arm when you bend the hell out of it, and then drive it to the body shop to fix the fender that you smashed when the hammer slipped.
