caliper bolts

What size is the torx head on the caliper sliders on the rear of a 95 crown vic? It's smaller than a 50 and my allen keys are just going to round it out.



EDIT: yeah......one of 'em is pretty round now i'll rebuild the calipers anyway so i guess it doesn't matter if I tear the torx heads up, just gotta figure out what size it is. smallest i've got is a t50.

if its smaller, prolly T-45. since torx bits increase by increments of 5, cant be that hard

T40 or T45 sounds right. Some are allen key, some are torx. I've even seen external torx on those.

Got a T60 for the front brakes on my Pontiac and some T50s for the door strikers on the Vic. Haven't had the need to buy more but I've been meaning to.

They're sufficiently rounded on the inside despite my best efforts and the right sized torx bit. Cut off the rubber boot and tried vice grips, unsurprisingly, they aren't turning them.

They are T-45.
Um, you might want to hit it with some PB Blaster and let it sit.
Maybe that will help.

thanks. it's in the basement, i've been going down periodically and drowning them in ATF and any other penetrating oils I have laying around

since it's fubarred anyway, have you considered putting flats on the outside so you can grip it with a wrench?

either hack saw or grinder cut off wheel. maybe a dremmel tool is in you future. with the right attachments, it does wonders.
