I don't know that threw me off.

M is the thirteenth letter in the alphabet and there are only twelve months.

    You have a 3.27:1 open 8.8 rear.

        Ah, good to know.

I guess they don't use it to eliminate confusion with 1.

the rubber gaskets are nice for us who tear into there too much, but RTV will work just fine. The trick is to make sure all the old stuff is gone, and the surface is clean, use brake cleaner, wipe the old lube from the bottom of the diff inside to help you keep it clean. I fill mine until it is level, or runs out of the filler hole on level ground. It takes 2 quarts of 80/90 to fill.

I did the same thing, I just filled it till if reached the hole. I used a can of carb cleaner and just sprayed out the inside of the rear, gets it really clean.

Just my method there is nothing wong with anyone elses, I use a razor blade to clean the gasket surface. A good clean one, stand it perpendicular to the surface and scrape. It does a good job of getting everything off, and also fixing any nics or defects in the surface. I do go back over it with some carb cleaner anyways though.

I use what is called a Ro-Lok 3M surfacing wheel on a angle die grinder, takes 2 min to clean the cover and the diff surface.

LOL, I always wondered what those were desinged for, we have few of those brillo like pads around the garage. I always used it to clean large surface areas.

They rule for clyinder head gasket prep, any gasket -RTV removal in general, or removing rust-corrosion.

Yep, removing pealing paint, rust, caked on bebri, and I even used it to remove a large portion of the goo from behind the strips on my doors when I removed them. And yes I tried all the stuff there is, they work good, if it's not 20 years old.
