How much does a throttle body spacer really do? Is it worth it?

I will let you know. I'm putting another motor in next month and then i'm taking it to the dyno in stock form to get a baseline. Then, part by part, i'll do the installs and see how much each part gains. I've been dying to do this type of research. And I will post results sometime in december, when i get back from my trips to North Carolina.

And i will avoid the Typhoon intake like the Hamthrax that my entire family, and the 280 kids at my little sisters school have. (42% of the school population)

sorry about the thread jack. But I am also interested in the TB spacer. It was only $60, so no big loss if it does suck....

no apologies for hi-jackin guys! I came to this site to learn about this car I fell in love with. You guys are getting me more up to date than MANY nights of joints and coffee did....lol

I am upgrading performance, NO DOUBT. so...... Ill learn from you guys so I know what the best bang for budget/best regardless of price, so I only have to do this once.......maybe...lol

so far thinking exhaust for sure, as well as cold air intake. up for question is headers, throttle body spacer cats do or dont, and intake manifold. That list looks like there is a 6-7 before the 3 zeros SV, may take a slow go at this.......lmao

it does take time and won't happen overnight (unless you win the lottery).
it does look like a lot but, if i break it down for you....
          TB spacer- 90
          coil packs and wires- 270
          cold air intake- 40
          fan- 15
          a/c- 00
          plugs- 60

not really that pricey. the heads i can get from the jyard at $40 a piece. and i'll probably go with that intake that chris suggested. funny, thats the most expensive thing on the car!!

1992.5-94 stock motor. except for the dual exhaust setup ( 2 cats, h-pipe, turbo mufflers)
baseline it, then part by part add it on. i know people love real world numbers. So, i would like to take this opportunity to do that.
The motor i take out of the car will be rebuilt and get the PI heads with a cam and that HPS intake. I don't need anything crazy, just a solid 300hp motor. I'll dyno that once i install it.(probably around springtime)
My GF is letting me get away with 300hp to the Tank. She reminds me, that i already have my affordable dream car, and once the Tank is set, it's time to blow some real money on the Marauder.
I, too, am looking forward to the TB spacer results.

Sounds like a great plan. I'd like to do the same to my 98 GM...but you know the whole money issue... haha. I'm getting there.

It means Performance Improved. It's the newer design of the heads and intake manifold Ford changed to.

so I am putting on the throttle body spacer and air intake this weekend....yipee. Hope to at least feel the lil difference from the two combined...think a new intake manifold and full exhaust should do the trick for a bit...thanks for all the help guys, SVT, you especially, lol.

just wondering, should I leave the stock cats, even though it is single exhaust, it has two cats, should I go straight pipe duals from the cats and just add the marauder resonators instead of mufflers? will I get all teh gain and still have enough back pressure? Or change it all out. Just wondering if after market cats and headers will make a big enough difference for the loot....

                          thanks for the help guys!

                            OK....

This is what i put in. It made a significant enhancement to both, sound and performance.
The 4 factory cats were ditched in favor of the 2 hi-flow cats.
2 Thrush Turbo mufflers are on there, and i have a set if Marauder tips to install over the next few weeks.
I'll post a video saturday of how it sounds.

                            NOW....
You can punch out the cats. you'll see a modest increase in SOTP.
If you punch out the cats, you NEED a muffler, or it will be "Pull-me-over-loud"
You want a balance between sound and performance.
Punch out the rear cats. Install a h-pipe. Put in glasspacks. install left over-axle pipe. And toss the Marauder tips on if you're feeling froggy.

                            and there you go.

Anyone else feel free to chime in.

My car was good with all 4 cats, x-pipe, and no mufflers. Its just a little too loud and has a not-so-perfect sound (when heavily accelerating) now that I have -2 stock cats and no mufflers. I have a set of glasspacks (23" Cherry Bombs) waiting to go in...just have a lack of money right now...haha.

Have you done any of your modification experimenting yet? I'm real interested because the new intake I put in zapped some of my low-end torque (might also be in part to my very free flowing exhaust).
