Odd cold (very cold) weather starting

This is my first winter with the '09 CVPI so I don't know what normal behavior is. In the morning it starts just fine, but it's in a garage with the engine block heater plugged in. When I leave work (-10F), I turn the key and it starts right up, but it sounds like the start still runs for a fraction of a second too long. I hear the high pitch clatter of the starter engaging while the engine is already running. The first day a just assumed I turned the key too long due to wearning gloves and poor dexterity because of cold hands. Every day it's done this when I start it to go home from work and never in the morning when it's a little warmer.

    Anyone experience this before?

The lubrication for the bendix on the starter is probably not allowing the gear to slide back quickly due to the cold and the "molasses in January" effect. Charge your employer for not having outlets for block warmers in the parking lot.
