    Oil leak

    I have a oil leak on the back of the motor is it time to change the rear seal and oil pan gaskets

    may just be valve cover gaskets.

      yea could just be valve cover gaskets.

      1986 lincoln towncar signature series. 5.0 HO with thumper performance ported e7 heads, 1.7 roller rockers, warm air intake, 65mm throttle body, 1/2" intake spacer, ported intakes, 3.73 rear with trac lock, 98-02 front brake conversion, 92-97 rear disc conversion, 1" rear swaybar, 1 3/16" front swaybar, 16" wheels and tires, loud ass stereo system, badass cb, best time to date 15.94 at 87 mph. lots of mods in the works 221.8 rwhp 278 rwt

        When I park the car I can see the oil spot near the back of the motor

          usually it's the valve cover gaskets that go WAY before the rear main seal. Get a flashlight and check around the back of the engine if you can to see if it's coming from up top and just running all the way down.

                that should be red juice. If its the same color as motor oil, you've got other issues.

                    ok, fair 'nuff then.

                    anyway, pan gasket is not a big deal. Change the filter while you're in there. Get the better pan gasket if you can. They make a rubber one thats not so prone to leakage. The cork ones suck.

                      I ordered a new oil pan cause when I had the trany flushed the young guy over tighten the bolts and messed up the pan and the gasket I tried to tell him the it's made out aluminum smh but I have all my parts just waiting on my pan and how much torque I need on the bolts

                        if its like the AOD, 100 in-lb.

                        The newer cars use aluminum pans? I was under the impression it was a stamped steel pan like all the others.

                          The rate the so called mechanic over tighten the bolts you would think so lol I know it's not aluminum but I can tell the pan messed up cause it leaks with the old gasket that came on the car from the factory and the after market gasket don't help

                            you can usually flatten the pan back out. I've done it to several. A few minutes with a hammer and a block of metal on the back side works fine. Just needs a bit of a light touch so you dont smash the pan the other way.

                              X2 on this. Easy to do. Most mechanics will not do this. Too lazy.
