    99 hesitation & misfits

So I've found a bunch of info about coolant seeping into the #4 cylinder on these. I do have the newer intake manifold with the metal crossover. I pulled the coil on #4 and there was no fluid in there. I'm at work now and don't have access to a code reader currently. Are there any other likely cylinders to check for coolant?

Dang autocorrect. The title is supposed to say misfire.

Check your plugs or replace them if it's been a while since the last tune up.
Half of the time, it's bad or realllly old plugs that cause that problem.
Are you getting a Check Engine Light (CEL)?

Yeah got the dreaded flashing cel. I will be getting the code read tomorrow so I can narrow down the cylinder(s).

I can only imagine that the coils and plugs have never been touched, or at least haven't been for quite some time. Previous owner bought it 10 years ago and only drove it 34k in those 10 years.

It only misfires at light to maybe 50%throttle. At WOT and idle it's fine.

change the fuel filter too if its been a while. May also be worth doing wires with the plugs if they are old.

To give you a wholly ambiguous answer to your question.....yes

It coil on plug. I'll be replacing what's misfiring for now but will replace all of them here shortly. As for the fuel filter...that will also be replaced soon.

I only asked that question because, my friend has a '99 grand marquis LS and it surges. Might not be the same thing but, his issue is trans related.

Code shows misfire cyl 1. Pulled the plug. It's fine. I'm voting bad coil

Probably a bad coil on plug on #1.

You may want to keep your eye on the manifold rear heater hose nipple at cyl. #4....discovered weepage on mine last fall while replacing all my cops....heater hose nipple connection is rotting away. Manifold will require replacement, thought I was in the clear as I have the aluminum crossover replacement but apparently not. Talk about an achilles heel....

First thing I checked was the hose by #4. It appears as though there was some manner if a leak back there at one point but it's dry as a bone now. I pulled that COP and plug first thing because that's where I figured the problem would be, everything was just fine.

These plastic manifolds can get weak and brittle over the years but they're not too bad to replace should the need arise. A nice warm day and a few sockets will get ya squared away.
