    Help!

I just recently got a 2000 GS Grand Marquis. Replaced the fuel pump and fuel filter. It's still like.... shuttering. Took it to a mechanic, he said the intake manifold was cracked, which lead to fluid leaking onto a coil. Also, he says the timing chain is going. There's only about 162,000 miles on the car.

Does his diagnosis sound correct? I just don't want to spend a shit load of money again and the problem STILL not be fixed.

    Thank you in advance!!!

The all plastic intakes are notorious for cracking. It is not uncommon for the ensuing leaks to ruin a coil or even the alternator. The timing chain is probably ok, the timing chain tensioners do wear out

I moved this thread. Your 2000 does not have a 5.0 or 5.8L engine.

plus the shuddering may be the torque converter if it's only around 35-45 mph.

            Thanks everyone!

Is there a temporary fix I can do until we can order the part this weekend?

We had the coil fixed, but the manifold is still cracked. It's our only vehicle at the moment.

if the crack is in an air channel and you can see it, you can probably get away with slathering it with black RTV (ultra black by Permatex or similar) as a temp fix. If it's between the coolant channel and the first cylinder... you're out of luck. I can't imagine it taking more than a day to get that part though. Any shop worth their wages should be able to get it next day.

Lots of updated manifolds in the junkyards around here too.

Chains probably just need tensioners, not too expensive (get Motorcraft brand tensioners and guides, they were cheapest for me at Tasca Ford), plan a weekend to be safe as it's your only car. Not a bad job.

                Where you located?
